Is the vocaroofag still here? The only thing impressive about black sabbath is their drummer (probably because he was musically trained). Actually heavy metal in general has a surprisingly decent assortment of rhythmic players, Legend is another band with a great drummer and bassist.

As for the outside influences on songs like Symptom Of The Universe, there are plenty of younger bands with interesting outside influence, but one has to ask how important it really is to have outside influence sections like these. Not only just how important, but also if it truly fits in with the rest of the music. I mean one of the most boring tropes in black metal are the trashy folk/ambient sections.

What I would like to see more from modern black/death bands is a lot more influence from IDM, industrial, EAI, and noise. Jute Gyte is the only band I know that takes percussion from IDM, Ehnahre takes from EAI, DsO has some pieces with death industrial/ambient, and then Vessel of Inequity really embraced noise. These outside influences would give a lot of value to the breadth and range of dynamics that extreme metal can utilize, compared to watering themselves down with acoustic intros and filler sections.

Also for the person I was speaking to about Uulliata Digir, you can find much of the same marble dropping effects on this:

I knew I had heard it on many IDM albums before.
