It's always something that inevitably happens because unless they had the budget to make a super long season, they have to choose what to cut off. That can include a lot of backstory lore, or shifting the story itself around. The worst kind of adaptation is the one that makes up its own story about certain story arcs, but so far at least for Silent Witch it's roughly following the same story format.
