Actually we have pretty good evidence that feathers ARE NOT basal to dinosauria. The earliest integumentary impressions we have for dinosaurs are all scales and osteoderms. No feathers found. Btw this is at the BASE of the dinosaur family tree. But then we also find that evidence backed up in all other groups of dinosaurs except exactly one: a small group of mostly chinese theropods. Anything else is people just calling random shit "feathers" to shoehorn a narrative into the science.
