He'll probably get impeached if (likely when) Dems win the midterms, and he has literally dared them to do it. But, I would say now this is less about that and more about how the GOP is going to steer around this insane narrative.
They more or less have 3 options:
1. Agree with Trump and risk being directly associated with the defense and/or cover-up of the worst pedophilia scandal we've ever seen.
2. Disagree with Trump and risk being ousted by MAGA.
3. Try to just ignore it and hope everyone somehow forgets about this.
I don't really see a winning scenario here other than #3, which isn't impossible considering that he somehow won a 2nd term despite being a political zombie after leaving in disgrace the first time and being embroiled in numerous scandals over the past 4 years. But, even if it's not obvious, MAGA forgave him because they hated Biden and Kamala so much that they were willing to give him another chance with the hope that he would prove everyone wrong: that he is an innocent man and an effective leader, neither of which are even close to being proven true (in fact, the opposite perception has now manifested over the last 6 months, and we still have 3.5 years to go).
At this point, I would predict that the optics of this administration, the forbidden basket which the GOP placed all of their eggs into, will crash the GOP for years to come. Recovering from the mounting fuck-ups of MAGA fever is going to take well over a decade economically and morally.
They just don't have anything to stand on at this point. MAGA at large is feeling duped, and the damage control is horrendous as it always has been. If Vance somehow wins the nomination in 2028, I have no idea how he is going to be able to prop up the abject failures of this administration other than obfuscating and deflecting like always. He doesn't have any charisma, and if Trump is already losing his this way, there's no way he stands a chance.
Newsom will be president in 2028.
