killing others of the same species is rather rare in nature, humans included. stags, for example, interlock antlers and then wrestle for the females. their antlers are specifically designed to prevent killing rival males.
among humans this is even more pronounced. just read the absurdities in both WW1 and WW2 where soldiers would come across an enemy and would simply get into a shouting match or some nonsense like that without actually trying to kill each other. post-WW2, with modern drilling methods in professional armies, soldiers are trained to shoot before even thinking and processing the situation. it has increased the killing rate, but also friendly fire and suicide since most people can't live with themselves after taking another's life.
