I'm like a broken record on this board about this, but the Troubles.
Most people see it as either
>the epic IRA rose up against the evil brits
>the EVIL Irish waged a terror campaign against innocent Protestant
>the evil scheming BRITS tried to GENOCIDE the heckin Irish
People tend to massively oversimplify the conflict, and almost always completely misunderstand the way the various belligerents operate, as well as what their goals (both realistic and purely idealistic) were. I would also say that Irish people from the Republic of Ireland barely have a better grasp on it than Britain; both Britain and Ireland have run decades long propaganda campaigns to feed people "their" version of events-and both Ireland+Britain's version of events is wrong.
