I remember an anon in a Misaki thread of days past saying he wished the anime had been made in the visual style of Abe who the creator handpicked to visually translate Misaki for the novel covers and that the anime was a more melancholic and atmospheric work, capturing the original novel more accurately. Ever since his post, I can't stop thinking about what a huge missed opportunity this was. I would've appreciated a more earthly, quirky and "darker" Misaki, honestly.
