Isn't serotonin one of the oldest neurotransmitters? IIRC, cannabinoids are a later adaptation from animals that specifically went on to become either us or brainless sea squirts. Really makes you think.

It's hard to believe that humans are genetically more related to these coral-like things than to snails and insects.
What kind of evolutionary pressure compels animals into discarding their brain like that?
