Daigo Matsuura, the producer of No.1 Sentai Gozyuger, regarding the design of Garyudo:
>Initially, he wanted to create a rival character similar to Don Murasame in Donbrothers, continuing the trend of rival characters like Stacaesar in Zenkaiger. He also used the image of Stacaesar as a model and carefully considered the theme for this new character.
>At first, they intended to base the theme on fierce animals such as sharks or mechanical wolves, but the design ended up looking more like a hero than a villain. Therefore, they decided to change direction. Instead of “ferocious beasts,” the theme became “a human who hunts beasts,” creating a more artificial and cold feeling.
>The name Garydo comes from the Japanese word “狩人” (karyudo), meaning hunter, after the design was finalized.
>The design of the gun on Garyudo’s back was inspired by the Chainsaw Man’s Gun Devil. However, due to Japanese TV broadcast censorship rules that prohibit pointing guns directly at viewers, the gun had to be designed to angle to the side. Initially, they planned for the gun to resemble a samurai hairlock that could shoot, but this idea was scrapped due to censorship issues.

>Apart from Hoeru's characteristic pose, the design of the scope on the Sentai Ring Wild Gozyu Wolf was also inspired by the anesthetic watch from Detective Conan.
