Reminds me of in Pokemon Sun/Moon, when Lillie (a character who you bond with throughout the game) leaves at the end of the game for her own journey and is never seen again. People complained that it was really sad, which is a fucking great thing. So instead of being proud that they made a deep and lasting impression on players like that, Game Freak retcons it in Ultra SM so she doesn't leave.

Yeah, the question is why didn't P3 get the adaptation first. I think Atlus didn't expect P3 to blow up as much as it did, so when designing P4 maybe they already had all this in mind and prepared.
