From then on, anytime Duke was coming through the area, Sara made it a point to prepare and bring him fresh food from the farm, hoping he would regale her with more stories. Although she could feel herself falling for him as they continued to talk and bond, she knew that Duke wouldn't be able to handle a mundane marriage with his current responsibilities.

There were nights she would dream she escaped the farm and now lived with Duke in a nice house in a fancy city like Waterdeep. Sometimes they had kids. Sometimes they were just by themselves. Either way, she was sad to wake up from those dreams. She often fantasized about what could be, but in his line of work Duke was as likely to die tomorrow from a bandit's stray arrow as he was to die in 400 years thanks to magic prolonging his lifespan well beyond it's natural end.

She would have to settle for the simplicity of bringing him food and listening to his stories whenever he was around, for now at least. Maybe some of his confidence would rub off on her and she'd simply ask him out despite her fears and worries about his path in life. Sara did little to hide her feelings for Duke, but Duke was often oblivious to her hints, and she didn't want to make anything too obvious for fear she might get what she wanted - only to have it ripped away a week, a month, perhaps a year later if she was lucky.

She remembers a distinct story Duke once told where he boasted about being apparently impervious. "I haven't even been out of breath yet, I don't think I'll be dying anytime soon." The words echoed through her head. She hoped by the grace of the gods he was right, and if they took mercy on Duke, then someday she would confess.
