And there's a reason why Jun was originally going to be the protagonist of EP; it's because it's their dichotomy that truly shapes the duology (and part of why they wrote in Jun coming to remember Tsumi the best out of anyone independent of your route.)

The reason they changed is they probably couldn't think of a very good party to fit him unlike Maya (who already has Ulala and is closer in age to Katsuya and Baofu.) Tadashi himself said Maya was "probably the worst character to have as a silent protagonist."
