I have seen this statement on the nuclear blocks in Hungary posted and reposted countless times today. I've decided to give you (and myself) a little more context into the history of the issue.

"The US has lifted sanctions that blocked construction of the Paks II nuclear plant. These politically motivated measures were imposed by the Biden admin just before Donald Trump took office. Grateful to the Trump admin, as this project will guarantee our future energy supply." - Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.

"Fortunately, since January, there has been a president in Washington, in the White House, who views Hungary as a friend. In this spirit, the U.S. government has lifted the sanctions related to the Paks nuclear investment," the minister continued.

"We are grateful to President Donald Trump and to the Republican administration. The Paks project guarantees Hungary’s secure energy supply in the long term and helps preserve the achievements of reduced utility costs," Minister Szijjártó said.

So, here's come context:

Back in 2014, the Hungarian government and head of Russian Rosatom nuclear agency Kiriyenko signed an agreement that Rosatom would be expanding the Hungarian Paks Nuclear Power Plant. Most of the project would be financed by a EUR 10 billion credit line from Russia. In 2017, the European Commission approved the construction of two new blocks at the Power Plant.
