The reason they went with this approach is to create a shared, universal resource between characters instead of having both build stacks from doing the same things independently. This allows them to market Lauma and Nefer (or any similar characters) as a set, rather than making each one fully self-reliant. It’s not fundamentally different from previous stack mechanics we've seen in the game, what’s new is that different characters can now contribute to and benefit from the same stack source. This creates a system where they boost each other’s gains uniquely, forming an exclusive synergy that can’t be easily replicated, essentially locking in a premium, interdependent team.

Lunar reactions aren’t like dendro reactions. They’re not designed to open up flexible team comps; quite the opposite. They’re meant to push players toward not just pulling nod-krai characters, but using them together in tightly-defined setups. The trend now is clearly toward selling full teams, not standalone units. You might’ve noticed HSR pulling strong financial numbers sometimes even outperforming Genshin. Mihoyo noticed that too. Both ZZZ and Genshin are shifting toward team-focused monetization models.
If a character is completely self-contained, someone who only likes that one character can roll once and skip the rest of the cycle. Great for the player, sure, but not exactly good for revenue. But if a character feels incomplete or underwhelming without specific teammates, then even casual or taste-driven players are incentivized to roll for units they’d otherwise pass on, just to make their favorite work better. That kind of frustration isn’t ideal, but clearly the gains outweigh the losses from the company’s perspective.
