All-girl fighting games have had male characters before. Like Genichiro in Asuka 120%. Unlike Beowulf though, Genichiro has an actual reason to be involved in the story since he's the principal of the girls' school and wants to help them achieve greater things.
Subverting expectations for its own sake is fucking lame. It's how you end up with shitty contrived characters like Beowulf. I feel if you're making an all-girl fighter you should try your best to remain pure to that vision unless you have a very good reason not to. Big Band can be considered a good reason since his design is very creative and unique and he is important to the story.
