Lately I have been studying modern techniques for replicating CRT visuals. Pixel patterns, scanlines, phosphor persistence, etc. Primarily targeted at retro gamers. I'm no retro gamer, but I like old-ish movies.
How were 80s movies meant to be seen? On the big screen? What technologies drive them? How do we replicate that aesthetic in the modern day?
For home video, one could use a scaler with CRT-simulation shaders/filters. On a modern OLED display these could look insanely cool. Am yet to get a large-format OLED display though.
