NTA but Metal Sonic was called Mecha Sonic in production notes. It probably was a coincidence though, they seemingly changed his name to not be confused with the Sonic 2 bots. (The S3K robot was also intended to be the 2 16-bit robot according to concept drawings, but the final design almost seems like they were trying to go for a fusion between that and Metal.)
