Queer edition

The dangers faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in Muslim societies are rooted in traditional interpretations of Islamic scripture particularly the Qur’anic story of the people of Lot (Qawm Lūt) and various hadith reports. The Qur’an condemns the actions of Lot’s people using terms like fahisha (grave indecency) and describes their destruction by a rain of stones which many classical scholars interpreted as divine punishment for male-male sexual acts. Although the Qur’an does not outline a specific earthly legal penalty, later Islamic jurists derived harsh punishments from these verses through analogy and supplemented them with hadith, some of which call for execution of those who engage in same-sex acts (e.g., “Kill the one who does it and the one to whom it is done” – reported in Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi).

“Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven” (Matthew 10:32), but “if we disown him, he will also disown us” (2 Timothy 2:12). As Christians how should we try to influence the culture of /pol/?
