US's empire's strategy is to combat China as far away from Chinese coastal defenses as possible. That means doing things like controlling the flow of oil from the middle east to Chinese coastal cities. Dominating the middle east means that we can shut off the lights in Guangzhou and Shenzhen; while keeping the lights on in Tokyo, and Taipei; without going anywhere close to mainland China.

To dominate the middle east, we need to prevent a regional hegemon from arising. Among the potential hegemons, it has always been the Arabs, the Turks, and the Persians. We play the balance of power's game, to prevent any one power from taking everything over. The Jews are too small and underpopulated to be a contender for regional hegemon. Same with the Kurds. So these groups are our allies in fighting against regional hegemons. Israel is also close to the Suez Canal, almost took it in the 67 war, and they are an important partner in keeping control of that vital trade artery, if Egypt decides to rebel against us.
