Lin, not Ling. Ling is the one with summons and yeah they take deployment slots. Lin is a phalanx caster, a class that doesn't attack off-skill but is (supposed to be) durable and has wide AoE. Lin in particular has a barrier that straight up negates small hits below a threshold
