Why do some people feel the need to lie to themselves to enjoy a show? Why pretend it has a grandiose theme instead of simply admitting it’s a power fantasy? Who are you trying to convince? However, when people try to aggressively sell it to others as something it's not, it starts to feel like they need external validation to justify their own tastes.
