Unless you have profanity tattooed on your face, the “unprofessional appearance” stigma is superficial and vain. Brightly dyed hair or cool piercings aren’t an appropriate metric to judge work ethic upon, I’ve met plenty of exceptionally hard workers that have both of those things. Old people just don’t want to accept peers that are significantly different from themselves
