one of the most fun parts of worldbuilding for me is adapting fantasy to reality and reality to fantasy - what would an ant colony be like if they thought like humans? what would a mushroom like if it was sentient? what kind of culture would a reality where gods were confirmedly real leave behind, how would it shape the religious landscape (since surely not everyone will agree with each other)? how would society be different if magic was there with us the entire time?
thinking about construction tools we have, especially jackhammers, is how i started my current project - we use jackhammers because we can't just break rocks with spells. a lot of tools we have are in lieu of spells. and these adaptations will come with horror, existential or otherwise, since magic, like any natural force, is going to be doing just about anything for its own purposes and not just for the people's benefit
i find reality and the horrors of it beautiful and its something im passionate about. it must be sad to not find joy or fun in realism or horror. i think its like dark chocolate or tiramisu where a little bitterness in the sweet can make it more enriching overall
