I think there are at least 3 types of speed metal, I call them "punky", "clean", and "thrashy".
Punky is basically Motörhead, Venom, and everything derived from them, some later ones can be so punky they pretty much bleed over into crust punk.
Clean is just sped up heavy metal. Later with added more melody it would develop into power metal.
And thrashy is like bands that were pushing metal to its extremes that would develop into thrash.

Should be pretty evident. I should have probably written" hardcore punk *influenced* specifically". Punk-influenced metal existed already before hardcore punk and thrash metal.
