It's only boring if you sit there, organize the pieces into groups by shape, and then try to match pieces to each other systematically one by one, which I've seen some here do. In that case, yes, it can be monotonous and repetitive. But they're doing it wrong. You're supposed to be looking for clues based on cut of the edge(s) and then scan for possible candidates. Like in this pic, you don't try 1, 2, 3, and then 4. You look at the edges, and you pick the one that looks like it has the best corresponding fit to piece A.
