I had people do this to me when I was a kid and you can very easily hit the inner part of the ear. It hurts so I don't know how can japs do that without being on edge. Unless they simply don't try to go all the way in. There's also the difference in ear wax consistency. SEA and westerners have different ear wax so it's way more disgusting doing this to a westerner than to a SEA
