My female boss pushed for me to go to an upcoming work conference with her. It really is only somewhat relevant I think to my job, probably more relevant to hers, but I rarely get to go to such things so I was excited to do so. It's a big opportunity for me to make connections, etc. But I'm getting weird vibes.
First it was because I booked a different cheaper hotel, and she really pushed me to book at the same hotel she would be staying. I tried to say how I was doing it to save money, but she mentioned it was a bad look for the company if we weren't staying at the same place and we should be staying at a more reputable hotel. So I switched it to that. She is telling me how we will make a great team there, that we really need to plan out our itinerary together and where we want to go for after dinner or to wind down afterwards because they will be long days. I mentioned how I was really interested in networking and she was saying how networking isn’t just about the meetings, it’s about the moments in between. That she would get us invited to some of the better vendor parties too. How excited she was that she was able to swing this and we could go together. How there was this amazing rooftop bar she wants to show me there. Nothing overt but I really don't know what to say. She's always been nice to me but I'm not great at socializing and soft skills, and I really get tongue tied when we have these conversations.
It's going to be fine right, just tell me I am reading way too much into this. These are normal human reactions and I'm just not good at these things?
