> which the people fetishizing Jax's dickery need to do to actually keep him that way. I'm not horny for shitty people so I have no emotional investment in him stagnating as a character.
You see, that's the difference with me. I don't think Jax, as he is, can progress. Because Jax is a character who's actualized by power; he desperately NEEDS to exert his own will over other people, otherwise he feels weak and worthless. What you see in episode 4 IS a more normal, well-adjusted person, but it's also him at his most miserable. Jax is only a tolerable person when he's absolutely depressed, which isn't good for him, but him being happy requires him to bring other people down. Jax will inevitably "stagnate" as a character due to his own toxic, self-destructive impulses, and that's COOL.

I do believe it IS tragic to pair Ragatha, a fundementally good natured person with her own problems, with Jax, a fundementally bad natured person who's only idea of happiness is harming others, with one another, because no matter how much the former tries, she can't help the latter escape his own cycle. This rabbit is not escaping Samsara.

I think Jax "progressing" would betray his character, unless you came up with a damn good reason for him to suddenly change from being a patheitc manchild who needs to hurt others to feel big, to being something more. So yeah, obviously trying to make him a softboy is boring, but also trying to make him more than an asshole betrays him too, unless you understand why he acts the way he does. Which I just don't think most of the fandom does
