I was going to make a post about THE ABSOLUTE STATE of Fate but I'd rather just blogpost
Finished reading Hollow Ataraxia yesterday - it was nothing short of fantastic. It's the kind of creative project where you can see obvious flaws in it, but its positive traits and creative decisions resonate with your soul so much that you end up calling it "perfect" despite the fact it's far from being flawless.
About 1/10 of the SoL scenes were boring to me or just seemed badly written, and a few more felt like padding and didn't interest me much, but everything else was super memorable. The writing team rode the line between stay night-style SoL and expanded, comedic SoL with utmost care.
Of course, the story side of things with the HA "trio" was perfect throughout. There's simply no way for me to lay out all the parallels, meanings and concepts I liked.
>Bazett being weak in spite of the image she built of herself and was imprisoned in all her life, and not realizing that until letting her Servant get comfortable with her two-sided personality
>Avenger also being weak but having a strong sense of self despite the fact he's nothing to begin with, going as far as to save people he shouldn't care for and grow attached to them
>Caren being an inverse of Kirei and being a helpful and affectionate character despite her chaotic actions and outwardly mistrustful demeanor
It's too meaningful for its own good, in a way. Scenes like Illya acknowledging Angra's false self, or Rider being saved from her doom, or Caster remembering Shirou's comment about letting her kill him at the end, or Bazett getting angry at herself and towards Illya over leaving Angra behind and considering him to be worthless, or Lancer lamenting his life choices and luck regarding women, or Archer splitting up with Rin only to bond with her one last time at the bridge, etc. etc. It's just Nasu and his colleagues endlessly stabbing you with KINO that only makes the ending feel all the more bittersweet.
RIP Avenger
