Saw an early screening of Superman and…yeah. This thing is fine. Just fine. 5/10 kind of fine. Not worth hating, not worth hyping. Let me break it down. The good. Superman looks like Superman. Suit’s solid, clean visuals, decent cinematography. Definitely feels like a step up from the cheap green screen soap opera look superhero flicks keep slipping into. The action is well-shot. Not overcut garbage, you can actually follow the fights. There’s one big third-act brawl that had the crowd going “oooh” a few times. Luthor (no spoilers, calm down) is played with some restraint, which I appreciated. Didn’t turn into a cartoon villain, which would’ve killed the tone. The score slaps in parts. No Zimmer bombast, but it fits the character. The meh. The pacing is weird. First 40 minutes kinda drag, then it rushes through plot beats like it's trying to catch a bus. Felt like they tried to cram too much setup into not enough time. Clark Kent is fine, but the character writing has zero edge. It’s very sanitized and safe. No real inner conflict, no strong arc. Just kind of...there. Dialogue ranges from decent to corny. At least three moments made me audibly go “ugh” and I wasn’t alone. The BAD. This movie has NO personality. It plays like a Superman movie that was written by a committee trying to please Twitter, execs, and 12-year-olds all at once. The emotional moments feel forced as hell. They try to go for gravitas but didn’t earn it. You can’t shove 3 minutes of flashbacks in and expect me to care. PG-13 rating really neutered a few scenes. You feel them holding back hard. It’s like watching a boxer throw punches underwater. Overall? It’s not embarrassing. It’s just completely forgettable. You’ll watch it, shrug, and probably never think about it again. If they’re using this as a launchpad for a new DCU, they better have stronger stuff down the line. This ain’t gonna win anyone over by itself.
