It's sad how works like this are treated as profound and daring, when in fact they're the complete opposite. Torturing and killing characters is incredibly easy. Healing them as if nothing had happened is more than easy, it's cheap. Making them deal with the consequences of their actions, learn from their mistakes and try to move forward, on the other hand, requires intelligence and creativity.
