I can see the pattern: Russia doesn't want Ukriane to pass gdp of 200 billion of nominal US dollars (around 1/5 of what Ukraine would've been if it followed Poland's transition in 1990s and 2000s).

Ukraine is stronger as Russia's enemy than Russia's vassal.
