I always liked the theory that Steven resented Kevin because he was in sync with Connie when they were fused and he could feel her becoming turned on by Kevin's advances. It seems more rational that he'd have a visceral hatred of him over that compared to other more heinous people in the show. Not only does he feel threatened by a romantic rival, but he had to be fused with Connie and feel her attraction to it.
