I do think women have a disengage switch in their brains. You always see news stories where a single mother let her boyfriend kill her kid. Presumably because her cavewoman brain was telling them that the Chad could give them a stronger kid as a replacement.

I've also seen it kick in during those rare occassions a father gets custody. My bro's junkie ex fought him tooth and nail when he wanted primary custody of their daughter. But once he won it she just pulled up stakes and left town and showed zero interest in her weekend visits.
