You have your brain poisoned by later titles.

DeS, DS1, and yes even DS2 are fun ADVENTURE games. While combat is a core aspect of gameplay, the combat is not "glorified" in a way that makes it out to be something more than it is. In all 3 of those games, the challenge of combat comes from facing enemies in various unique situations whether it be enemy placement, environmental hazards, the physical location itself (i.e. tight corridors). These games, like a real adventure game, keep you entertained with variety. This is why people who like the older games talk up the puzzle bosses because they're something DIFFERENT. You think it's boring that enemies have more unique designs and strategies in the older games? Well to me what's boring is having a dozen bosses whose only real difference is their attack patterns. What's boring is fighting several dozen repeat bosses. What's boring is fighting bosses that are literally rehashed movesets from their previous games.

You find the old games boring because you think the only thing that makes the souls series "interesting" is "difficult" bosses that are all about memorizing movesets through trial and error
