you do indeed have to be extremely naive to believe children are inherently good and goodness is just the natural state of all humans that takes effort to defy.
huge number of genetic and environmental factors can lead to even very young children who delight in the suffering of animals and other humans.
and instead of recognizing and assisting these children to lead a more normal life we americans ignore it until they end up taking human life, directly through violence or indirectly when they're elected to government positions.
govt makes or seeks out such individuals if they make it through their young adulthood without causing a fuss in case anyone doesn't know that. It's why you'll never see a young president.
