It doesnt make sense. The Germans were anything but stupid and could have set up cheap simple gasifiers at each camp.

They could use wood from local forests and wouldnt have had to worry about an expensive production process for Prussic acid.

There is no doubt people died in the camps. You just have to look at the British concentration camps where they killed off more than 30% of the entire Boer population of woman and children.
