The Monster girl momentum fizzled out for a few reasons.
Just touching on the main points I think it boils down to.
1. KC working on his game and putting out a new Encyclopedia page once in a blue moon really killed a lot of momentum for a lot of people, and that's not even going into his weird Discord drama thing where he has people whispering in his ear that sit in on artist communities to blacklist any artist that take NTR commissions, or anyone that associates with someone they've blacklisted already. KC hates NTR which is normal, but to an unhealthy point where he spent a good couple years just talking about how much he hates it literally every day, making multiple layers of secret accounts to try and avoid it while these gremlins just kept whispering in his ear. It's pushed a lot of the bigger drawfags totally away from MGE, and some like Less or Vada are arguably bigger than KC at this point.
2. Crab got stuck in an endless cycle of getting sick, and not knowing how to actually progress his story. He ended up leaning on the fan cameo chapters as a crutch for much longer than he should have. After delays and hiatuses, the few chapters we get never actually focus on the main cast so interest is lost.
3. Who even knows what's going on with MGQ anymore, when's the last one that got full translated?
4. Gacha and Vtuber designslop has oversaturated the market with cosplay tier monstergirls. No one thinks of centaurs when you say "Horse anime girl" now. It's just Umas.
5. Merchandising was always too hard. There are a few lamia figures out there now and they all cost an arm and a leg over normal human figures of about the same quality and scale. It's a niche enthusiast market for retards like me.
I think there's still great "monstergirl" art being done, but it's too spread out, with the main titans dead for it to have any community level focus.
