Trump has the legal authority to order the military to stop using military logistics to move aid into Ukraine. This would be reversed in court because the President is NOT allowed to interfere with aid sent via Congress, which is WHY his admin said from the very start that it was a TEMPORARY pause in aid. Now, Im sure they didn’t imagine it would be THAT temporary — because someone told Trump he’s out of line and he’s going to get smashed. Hegseth clearly understand the orders he’s a high-IQ white native English-speaking American executing his role as Trump’s Secretary of Defense. Hegseth did NOT “misunderstand” Trump’s orders, he simply agreed to eat shit in order to cover Trump from the potential blowback by the power structure. THAT’S the real world. The Trump admin gamed out a high-pressure tactic to get Zelensky to negotiate, and the power structure shot it down instantly. Trump’s power to order the military exists in theory ONLY, and it’s not just Trump, every President since at LEAST Bush has been powerless to make it do anything. Obama ORDERED the DoD to shut down Gitmo and they simply laughed in his face. In Trump’s first term the DoD routinely ignored Trump. You think Biden DIDN’T cajole the DoD like crazy to get involved in Ukraine which ended up with State having to carry the whole project? /k/‘s understanding level of how power works is very cartoonish and utterly divorced from reality.
