People think the forests are beautiful, and they are, but they can be extremely dangerous in many areas and in certain times of the year. Ignorant people go wandering, they come upon a bear, or a moose, or a bison, or a mountain lion, or a panther, or a bobcat, or wolf, or a pack of coyotes, or they accidentally step on a venomous snake. The animal attacks. The person becomes injured, incapacitated, or killed. The animal feeds on the body. The body decays, emits a strong odor that travels for miles and attracts more animals to feed. The animals break off parts of the body and carry it away. The forest does what it does and returns the remains to the earth for its nutrients, covering the body with fallen leaves and blown dirt --- Same as what happens to most other animals when they are killed in the forests. It's no mystery that those naive humans "disappeared". It's simply nature doing what it does.
