I find it funny because I don't know if it was intentional on Oda's part or not. Part of me thinks that though he was inspired by Dragon Ball, he also did his research with Journey to the West. On another note, Nami is also Oda's take on the Monkey King, but in a different way from Luffy.

>Wukong traveled with Ao Lie, the White Dragon Horse who's a dragon prince in disguise and Nami travels with Luffy, the son of Dragon, the revolutionary leader of the world
And knowing how autistic Oda is with details, he made all these parallels deliberately. One Piece is more faithful to Journey to the West than Dragon Ball ever was.
