Gotta remember, even in the 90's China was a popular export state for making tweens/keyframes alongside Korea. They had the technology all along, just didn't have the cultural pull until very recently when Pooh-Bear decided to go full-blitz at trying to dethrone Japan and Korea and put China in their places.

I hate China and its leadership but you have to admit one thing: Command Economies are very good at smelling blood in the water and taking unilateral advantage of it instantly. American media was on a downslope, Japanese media was strangling itself so people wouldn't see a high schooler's panties, it was the PERFECT time for China to swoop in and just present all of the shit old people tried stealing on a silver platter like carefully placed bait on a fish hook.

Now they own the biggest social media site, the biggest blockbuster video game of the last five years, and soon the biggest animated films. And it's all thanks to every politician and industry leader in the west and the free east putting a gun in their collective industries' mouth and pulling the trigger to appease culture warriors who hate their guts anyway.

If it makes anyone feel better, they could undo this at any time by just repealing all of this shit and widespread funding anime projects, but they won't because the boomers are still alive.
