I wish I knew. I love Morgott as a character. He persists protecting the lands of gold where all of the other demigods have vanished. But that in itself has me curious. His motivation is to protect the Erdtree specifically and though I don't really understand the ending, defeating the nightlord and choosing the default ending seems to restore the entire Lands Between and Erdtree as it was.
So why his he opposing the nightfarers in their quest? The purple haze across his face implies to me that he has been corrupted into a thrall of the nightlord which is a bit tragic. But tragic is fitting for Morgott. I'm always happy to see him.
