This movie actually hits a little close to home since I deal in vintage toys. Back in 05, toy collecting was not what it is today. It was niche and values were relatively tame. With millennials growing up and especially post-covid, prices have skyrocketed.
The plot of the movie is giving up his toys to move on with his next phase of life, but those were better than any investment in a bank.
Last 80s high end toy I sold was 3 days ago for $13,500, 05 auction value was ~1700, for context. But I've sold single toys upwards of 100k-200k to museums, artists and collectors.
