Right like they wrote him goofy with some moments of clarity for a reason back then. With The Seven and Slone out of the picture they probably were gonna scrap him too but because he's too iconic they knew they had to keep him in some way so they did the whole mentor thing with him and Hope but it just doesn't work. If he was still a little goofy with Hope being super serious it'd be fine but they made them both serious so it's not all that fun or interesting to watch them interact. All their interactions boil down to:
