The "Mandela Particle":

In 1973, researchers at the physics institute at Leeds University in Britain named a newly discovered nuclear particle after Nelson Mandela.

At the time, Mandela was still imprisoned on Robben Island.
However, it was later discovered that the equipment used was faulty, and the "discovery" was not real.
