No, you're not. SB is a good story and tells its tale well.
It's ShB that absolutely destroys any remains of an interesting existence and tale with all of it's everything really, from it's ruining of the story's stakes to essentially being a giant side quest that tacks on too much to ever keep the universe stable again and just has messy concepts.
I truly believe the only reason ShB is remembered fondly is because of the nice visuals and good marketing along with a good soundtrack.
Also Feo Ul and the Pixies are the only 100% good parts of ShB.
