I'm starting to think the images weren't released in chronological order. This last one is the ex promising to wait by Hachiko's statue. The statue is a symbol of loyalty, since the dog never quit waiting for his owner to come back. The image of the ex being surprised the MC actually came to meet her likely happened after this last image.
