As soon as the USSR fell there wasn't a rival superpower/ideology people could look to anymore. Our elites began absolutely pummeling normal Americans with stuff like NAFTA, Welfare Reform, and the like. Monopolies are a shitty thing, just look at how bad websites like Google have gotten for instancce.
