looks unnatural like it was painted into the world by a brush. all the peaks are the same height in areas and features are all equally rough, features like that would naturally over time smooth out at points with rain and sediment build up. given there's earthquakes in the game it makes no sense that the mountains are all the same height and equally rough. stuff in the distance is blurred which makes no sense at that distance but they didn't want to bring the fog further forward.

Sam is looking down onto a distant city but feels like they used local lighting done at the same height. So the city looks like it's getting zero sunlight when in reality at that distance the sun would be higher up and the light would diffuse shadows a lot more at that distance. Same for the cliffs in the background, they're not that steep to have such dark shadows so it just looks wrong.

DS always looked at it's best with foggy/rainy conditions and green rolling hills, somebody in art direction managed to wrangle the autist in and knew that certain stuff like grass and fog would be far more forgiving for the artists. Grass can be fairly uniform to the human eye and fog is the industry standard for dealing with render distance. so in that scenario you can just focus on the geography

with mountains there's way more ambition here than it looks like they were prepared for but honestly not a terrible job considering the challenge
